Alfons Mucha (1860-1939) was among the most renowned artists of his time. He was especially famous for the posters he designed, such as those for Sarah Bernhardt. They represent milestones in the history of graphic arts and of modern graphic design. Mucha, who was born in Moravia, was drawn to the magical world of the theater and the stage for most of his life. Mucha's work reveals an intermediary between fin-de-siècle symbolism and growing social involvement at the dawn of the twentieth century. In the current exhibition at the Museum Villa Stuck Mucha's multifaceted artistic achievements are revealed in paintings, photographs, sculptures, drawings and pastels, as well as furniture designs, book covers, product packaging and jewelry representative of all stages of his career. |
