NEVIN ALADAĞ. SOUND OF SPACES

Programme

Music

Nevin Aladağ develops music sculptures out of existing, modified or newly designed soundboxes. She converts pieces of furniture into musical instruments for her “Music Rooms,” combines various members of an instrument family in the “Resonators” and designs architecturally defined spatial instruments in “Resonating Space.” Musicians of the Neues Kollektiv München NKM activate these sculptures as part of performances that go through various sections and can be viewed by the public while touring the exhibition.

NKM – Neues Kollektiv München is a contemporary music ensemble. The artistic practice of NKM is informed by a close interaction between creative performers and music-making composers. The musicians elicit a distinctive sound from the sculptures to create a performance that embraces experimentation and improvisation.

At the invitation of the Museum Villa Stuck, the award-winning author Ulrike Draesner, known most recently for her successful novel “Schwitters”, has explored the work of Nevin Aladağ. This resulted in a contribution for the exhibition catalogue, in which she interweaves thoughts about texts and carpets in a deeply poetic manner. Draesner’s text impressively demonstrates her masterful feeling for the sound of language. The poet will read excerpts from her work and talk to the curator of the exhibition, Helena Pereña.

At the Museum Villa Stuck, the artist Nevin Aladağ presents large-scale works made of parts of different carpets that look like church windows.
On a tour of the “Sound of Spaces” exhibition we study the colorful patterns and surfaces of the carpet collages. Using lots of fabric and textile scraps, we then employ the collage technique to create our own carpet marvel.
